Silvanus
started out as a spotted gum burl slab given to me by friends. It turned
out to be a real bugger of a thing to carve as the "cancerous"
bits were of course all end grain and very hard.
In
the end to provide a counterpoint to the variation in colour and character
of the wood,
I used a polymer finish on the background rebate to produce a gloss
effect. Not something I'd normally do, but it worked well in this case.
